Mesh networks and Hamnet

I recently learned about the concept of Mesh Networks and how you can use some old outdated Linksys WRT54G routers to create your own mesh network. I am in the process of hunting down some of these old compatible WRT54G routers, which are always on Craigslist except when I need them.

This concept of creating a mesh network is fascinating to me. Here is the official definition taken from the following site: www.hsmm-mesh.org

Broadband-Hamnet™ (formerly called HSMM-Mesh™) is a high speed, self discovering, self configuring, fault tolerant, wireless computer network that can run for days from a fully charged car battery, or indefinitely with the addition of a modest solar array or other supplemental power source. The focus is on emergency communications.

I am really looking forward to digging into Broadband Hamnet and getting my nerd on! I will posting updates as I go. If you have any experience with Broadband Hamnet or some tips that may help me out, please feel free to email me at [email protected]
